Merchant Navy is the best solution for them because as you go out there you start earning and you earn good and by the age of 30-33 you become a Captain or a Chief Engineer in Merchant Navy and at that rank, you earn a very good salary.
2. Less Competition
The merchant navy is one career option that offers less competition and more opportunities for those who are willing to put in the time and effort to succeed. While there may be less competition for jobs in the merchant navy, that doesn’t mean that it’s an easy career path.
Working in the merchant navy requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice, but for those who are willing to put in the effort, the rewards can be substantial.
3. Visit Exotic Places
Don’t get too much excited that at every port you will be getting shore leaves and you will be exploring places like Greece or Italy. If you are sailing on tankers it becomes difficult to go out but if you are sailing on bulk carriers it becomes easy so it depends on the type of ship you are sailing on but still, you will get opportunities to explore while signing on or signing off from the ship and if you are lucky enough you will get some possibilities and opportunities when you are on the ship to go out and enjoy the cuisine of that place and learn their cultures as well but again don’t have very high hopes on this point.
4. You Stay with your Parents
One of the advantages of being a merchant navy officer is that you get to choose your own schedule. This means that you can take time off to spend with your family and loved ones when you are back home.

Merchant navy is one of the most rewarding career options, offering lucrative salary packages and tax-free income and normally we know if we do 183 days on board a ship in a financial year, we get tax exemption i.e. seafarers are called NRI.
Suppose you are a Chief Engineer and you are earning 8 lakhs rupees per month and if you sail for 6 months you earn 48 lakhs and now compare this with MNC culture where you have to pay taxes as well to earn an amount of 70 lakhs your salary should be 1 crore.

6. Adventurous Life
No two days on the ship are the same every day is a new challenge onboard ship. Every day some new thing will happen on board.
For example today we have to go on this port, today the time zone has been changed, Pilotage will be tomorrow, or we have to pick the anchor immediately. So, there is no fixed time and no fixed schedule. Every day is different.
Challenges keep on coming and going the only thing constant is your struggle. The only thing constant is you don’t give up so if you want an adventurous life merchant navy is for you.
7. Time for yourself
Working in the merchant navy can be a demanding and challenging career, but it’s essential to prioritize self-care to maintain your mental and physical health. Once you are on the ship your total focus is on your work and once you are on land your complete focus is on your family and you get a lot of time on the ship you can prioritize sleep, exercise, connecting with loved ones, practising mindfulness, pursuing hobbies, eating healthily, and taking breaks, you can maintain a healthy work-life balance and improve your overall wellbeing.
