[OR] Candidates with a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized university can take a lateral entry into the 2nd year of Btech Marine Engineering. [AND] Minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th [OR] 12th Examination. All candidates should be between the ages of 17-25. SC/ST candidates get a relaxation of up to 5 years. Merchant Navy Entrance Examination- Btech Marine Engineering
Following are the entrance exams for the above-mentioned colleges-


- IMU CET- IMU CET stands for Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test. It is a common entrance exam for almost all IMU campuses and many other maritime courses. MERI Kolkata selects all its students on the basis of the result of their IMU CET ranking.
- TMISAT- TMISAT stands for Tolani Maritime Institute Science Aptitude Test. Apart from clearing the TMISAT, candidates are also required to clear the IMU CET examination.
Btech Marine Enginneering Colleges-

1. IMU Kolkata ( previously known as MERI/ DMET)

Indian Maritime University, Kolkata is a government institution that selects its students as per ranking in the IMU CET Exams. Most Marine Engineering college students are required to clear an entrance exam before enrolling themselves in a maritime institute. IMU Kolkata has a reputation for being one of the most acclaimed Marine Engineering Institutes in the world. Along with that, the institution also has a very strong network of alumni spread far and wide, serving at key positions throughout the shipping industry.
The campus provides its students with a dynamic learning experience with many extra-curricular activities. The top recruiters at the institution are- NYK, Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Chevron Corporation, Mediterranean Shipping Company SA, Scorpio Marine Management, Laurel Ship Management Pte. Ltd., Thome Ship Management, Torm shipping, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, OMCI shipping, MPI offshore, etc.
The college charges a fee of INR 9 Lakhs, for this course.

2. Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI)

Tolani Maritime Institute located in Pune, Maharashtra is a private institution approved by the DG Shipping. It is one of the largest maritime educational centres offering a Btech in Marine Engineering. The Marine Engineering degree program at TMI has been awarded Grade A1 by ClassNK in the Comprehensive Inspection Programme of DG Shipping. The Grade achieved by TMI is a result of their excellent placement record, great infrastructure, and highly qualified and experienced faculty.
The institute conducts its own entrance examination called TMISAT, described above in the entrance exam section. Once the candidates have appeared for IMU CET they are still required to appear for TMISAT.
The institute also has its own shipping company and has tie-ups with the following companies as recruiters- Anglo-Eastern Ship Management, Mediterranean Shipping Company SA, Chevron, B W Shipping, Fleet Management, Scorpio Marine Management, Maersk, Stena, Wilhelmsen ship management, Teekay tankers, etc.
The institute charges a fee of INR 22 Lakhs, for this course. Keeping in mind the high fees charged by the institute, they put the same amount of effort into placing their students in the best companies.
