Placement:- Placements are fine. I would suggest all TMI BTech Marine Engineering aspirants to take Mechanical engineering first and then do GME i.e Graduate Marine Engineering from a good college. I will never suggest you to join TMI. Because the fee has touched nearly 24 lakhs. Please listen to me guys. Life after TMI after spending soo much of money... isn\'t really worth it. Trust me guys,go for GME. In this way you will have Mechanical Engineering degree in your hands and this is a very big advantage. Please consider my review seriously.

Placement:- placement is not so bad but it require improvement .About 60-70%

Waiting Period:- it doesnot depend on college it completely depend upon company that you are going to sail.

Training & Wellbeing:- it only thing that fantastic this type of training ,equipments ,workshops ,faculties ,instructors are well oriented and hostels facilities are more than any other college facilities .

Placement:- College is only behind money. If you have financial problems the college will not listen to you and straightway threaten you by not letting you sit for campus interviews or exams. Main motive is money making here.

Waiting Period:- Depends if you are placed.

Training & Wellbeing:- As i mentioned earlier making money is their only motive. After you pass out they will not bother whether you are placed or not.

Education Qualification

Education Qualification after 12th

Eligibility 2025 - B. Tech. Marine Engineering:
  • Qualifying in IMUCET as well as TMISAT is mandatory for admission.
  • The following criteria have to be met in order to be eligible for admission into the B.Tech. Marine Engineering degree programme at Tolani Maritime Institute:
    • Academic Qualifications:
    You must have successfully completed the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent with:
  • At least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), and
  • At least 50% marks in English either in Class X or Class XII
Age Criteria:
  • Male candidates born on or after 1st September 2004 are eligible to apply for the 2025 batch. In accordance with Government of India guidelines, there is a two year age relaxation for female candidates and girls born on or after 1st September 2002 are eligible to apply for the 2025 batch.
Gender:
  • TMI encourages the participation of both genders without discrimination.
Marital Status:
  • Only unmarried candidates will be considered.
Physical Fitness:
  • The Institute has laid down detailed minimum physical fitness and medical standards.
  • The candidate has to meet these standards to qualify for admission.
  • You are advised to have yourself medically examined by competent doctors before applying.
  • This will ensure that you meet the minimum requirements, which in turn will avoid disappointment at a later stage.

Education Qualification after Diploma

Lateral Entry into 2nd year of B.Tech. Marine Engg. programme
  • TMI also offers Admissions by Lateral Entry into 2nd year of B.Tech. Marine Engg. programme depending upon the eligibility criteria as laid down by IMU and availability of seats at TMI.
The criteria for admission into 2nd year B.Tech. Marine Engg. are as follows:
  • Unmarried candidates of either sex, less than 24 years of age Candidates who have passed.
  • 3-years Engineering Diploma in Marine /Mechanical/Electrical/Electrical & Electronics, from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 60% of aggregate marks in the last year of the Diploma Course.
    • OR
  • 4-years Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 60% of aggregate marks in the last year of the Diploma Course.
    • OR
  • 1st year training from the Alternate Training Scheme, approved by D G Shipping.
    • OR
  • 1st year from the Engineering College in other streams like Mechanical or Electrical approved by AICTE with minimum 60% average marks.
    • OR
  • 3 years Diploma course in the following categories, from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 60% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course:
    1. Mechanical Engineering Stream: Automobile/Machine Tools and Maintenance/Plant Engineering/Production Technology/Production Engineering/Advanced Diploma in Tool and Die Making.
    2. Electrical Engineering Stream: Electrical Power System.
    3. Electrical and Electronics Engineering Stream:
  • Digital Electronics/Electronics and Communications/Electronics and Telecommunication/Industrial Electronics/Electronics/Electronics Production and Maintenance/Instrumentation/Instrumentation and Control Engineering
    • AND
  • The candidate must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in English language at the 10th or 12th or the Degree/Diploma Course conducted by a recognized board or University.
  • The candidate should have completed the diploma within its stipulated duration of 3 or 4 years as the case may be.

  • a. For Student enrolling in the first year in Academic Year 2025-26, the estimated fees and Student Services for the four year programme will be approx. Rs. 25.92 Lakhs
  • b. Female students are entitled to a waiver of 50% in Tuition fee for each semester.
  • c. Student Services Expenses are charged on actuals.
    d. Amount payable to Indian Maritime University (IMU) is required to be paid directly by the students to IMU through IMU portal.
  • e. Exam fee will be charged by IMU per semester and is required to be paid directly by the students to IMU through IMU portal. Exam fee is not included in the above structure.
  • f. Caution Deposit is payable on admission. The interest free caution deposit is refundable after the end of programme.
  • g. Statutory taxes / levies, if any imposed, will be charged on actuals.
  • h. Monies due for each semester is payable at the beginning of semester before due dates.
  • i. Late fee @ 18% p.a. is applicable for monies received after due date.
  • j. Value added courses undertaken by the students will attract additional fees.
  • k. Separate charges would be levied at actual costs incurred by the Institute in respect of excursions, visits, medical expenses (to the extent not covered under insurance).
  • l. Fees, Estimated Expenses and Caution Deposit are payable in either of the modes mentioned below –

  • In case a student, after completing the admission process and paying the fees, decides to withdraw from the Institute, a part of the fees will be forfeited. The amount forfeited depends on the date of withdrawal communicated in writing by the student and parent/guardian.

  • Please note that you will be required to upload the following documents in soft copy while filling the form online.
  1. Recent passport size photograph
  2. Class X mark sheet
  3. Class XII mark sheet (Candidates appearing for Class XII exam in 2025 may submit these copies after declaration of results.)
  4. Leaving / Transfer Certificate / Birth Certificate (For age proof)
  5. Passport (if available) Please note that Passport is mandatory for admission.

  • Application/online test fee will not be refunded in any case, if the form is filled more than once.

Selection Procedure – B. Tech. Marine Engineering

  • A successful career as a merchant mariner requires more than just a strong academic foundation. Other characteristics that are necessary include:
  • Communication skills Temperamental suitability for a sea career Leadership qualities Physical fitness

Aptitude for scientific concepts

  • Tolani Maritime Institute’s selection process will test candidates on each of the above parameters by taking into account a candidate’s 10+2 PCM marks, IMUCET rank, result of the TMI online entrance exam, performance in an interview and satisfactory medical tests.

Selection Process

  • Applicants shortlisted on the basis of their PCM marks and IMUCET rank will have to appear in online test. Candidates will be short listed based on performance in above mentioned tests and medical fitness as per DGS norms.

Online Test

  • The Online Test has Main Test with 80 Questions in four sections and a Behavioral Assessment.
  • The on-line test has a multiple-choice format covering Physics, Mathematics, Analytical and Logical Reasoning. The questions are of 10+2 level. There is one section each with negative marking in Physics and Mathematics. Duration of the test is 90 minutes.
  • On completion of the Main test consisting of above four sections there will be a behavioral assessment for 30 minutes.

Personal Interview

  • Applicants are interviewed by a panel of educators and maritime professionals to assess the applicants’ communication skills, leadership potential, clarity of thought, maturity and reasoning abilities. The panel also looks for any extracurricular achievements of the candidate.

Medical Examination

  • Medical practitioners appointed by the Institute will examine all selected candidates for certifying conformation with the medical requirements laid down by the Institute.
