Sailor Pro is an Android application developed by Merchant Navy Decoded to support seafarers, merchant‑navy cadets and other maritime professionals. The app combines exam preparation, government‑circular guidance, course finders, job search tools, document management, financial guidance and other resources in a single platform. This privacy policy explains what information we collect through the Sailor Pro app, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. It applies only to the Sailor Pro mobile application and not to other websites or services operated by Merchant Navy Decoded.

Information We Collect

Location Information

• Approximate or precise location (optional): With your permission, Sailor Pro may access approximate or precise location data to help you find nearby STCW course providers or medical services. Location access is not required for app functionality—if you deny perm/ission the rest of the app will still operate.

Device Information

• Device IDs and identifiers: To help with analytics, fraud prevention and communications, Sailor Pro collects device identifiers (such as your device’s Android ID). These identifiers are used internally to understand usage patterns, troubleshoot crashes and safeguard the platform.

App Activity Data

• App interactions: We collect information about how you interact with the app (for example, which features you use or search terms you enter) to improve functionality and identify bugs.
• User‑generated content: Optional content you create within the app—such as notes or feedback—may be stored to deliver the service.

Communications

• Other in‑app messages: If you contact us through the app’s support features or send feedback, we collect the content of those messages and any accompanying screenshots to assist you.

How We Use Your Information

We process the information listed above for the following purposes:

1. App functionality and account management: Your name, email address, phone number and user ID allow us to create and manage your account; authenticate you when you log in; and provide access to exam materials, calculators and other features or subscribe to alerts. We also use device IDs and app‑activity data to ensure the app operates correctly and to identify fraudulent or abusive behaviour. When users register or complete their profiles, you collect career history and qualifications. This is necessary to match them with relevant jobs, training courses and eligibility calculators. For example, knowing a user’s rank and sea‑time helps recommend the correct MMD exam materials or STCW courses.
2. Personalization and analytics: Optional personal details and app‑interaction data help tailor content such as study recommendations, job suggestions or course alerts. Aggregated analytics help us understand which features are popular, but we do not sell analytics data to advertisers.
3. User support: Contact details and message content enable us to respond to your support requests, fix issues (e.g., login problems or document upload errors), and provide updates.
4. Location‑based features: If you grant location permission, we use your approximate or precise location to show relevant services such as nearby STCW courses or medical doctors. We do not track your real‑time movements and you can revoke permission at any time.

Uploaded documents and photos remain in your account until you delete them or request their removal. In the event of Merchant Navy Decoder’s involvement in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, any changes in ownership, we may disclose Personal Information to those involved in the negotiation or transfer.

Your Choices

Managing Your Information

You can review and update your account details within the app’s profile settings. If you want to remove documents or photos you’ve uploaded, you can delete them from the document vault at any time. You can also request that we delete your account and associated data by contacting our support team at support@merchantnavydecoded.com or via the in‑app support system

Opting Out of Location Tracking

Location permissions are optional. You can disable location access through your device settings. Doing so may limit features that rely on location (e.g., local course recommendations) but will not prevent you from using other parts of the app.

Data Deletion Requests:

If you wish to have your personal data deleted, please contact us at support@merchantnavydecoded.com or via the in‑app support system. After verifying your identity, we will delete your personal information from our systems, except where retention is required by law or necessary for legitimate business purposes (such as addressing fraud or abuse). According to Google’s data‑safety disclosure, users can request that their data be deleted.

Children’s Privacy

Sailor Pro is intended for adult users (aged 18 and over) who are preparing for or engaged in maritime careers. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we discover that a child has provided us with personal information, we will delete that data promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has supplied personal information should contact us at the e‑mail address provided above.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the law or our practices. When we do, we will publish the revised policy within the Sailor Pro app and update the “last updated” date. Your continued use of the app after any update constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
