  • The NUSI Maritime Academy is the brainchild of Late Dr. Leo Barnes, General Secretary of NUSI.
  • Being a visionary and a person of international repute on maritime labour affairs.
  • Dr. Barnes gave a tangible shape to the entire concept of the training institution under his personal supervision.
  • NUSI MARITIME ACADEMY is the only Academy of scale started by a trade union imparting technical training with a view to creating a cadre of qualified seafarers.
  • The Academy functions under the auspices of the ITF/NUSI Welfare Trust for Indian Seafarers.
  • The Academy is located 50 kms south of Dabolim Airport and 13 kms from the city of Margao.
  • National Highway No. 17 connecting all the ports on the Konkan coast is just 3 kms away from the Academy.
  • The Academy is situated in the village of Sucaldem, Chinchinim, Goa.
  • It is nestled amidst 35 acres of lush green coconut and cashew plantations at the confluence of two branches of picturesque river Sal that flows past before joining the Arabian Sea.
  • The NMA functions under the Captain Superintendent (CS) who is the overall incharge of the Academy.
  • The CS liaisons with the Chairman on all matters concerning NUSI Maritime Academy.

Placement:- Placement is good.Anglo eastern is the mass recruiter.

Waiting Period:- Not much.

Training & Wellbeing:- Training is Excellent.Highly Knowledgable Staff

General Purpose Rating Course Eligibility –

Duration of the GP Rating Course is 6 months. There is no scope for leave or sick leave during the course. This is a RESIDENTIAL course (hostel is compulsory). As a part of training candidates need to be prepared for practical work including looking after living quarters, and the campus. This course includes mandatory Basic STCW courses required for CDC

  • Xth standard pass from government recognized board with subjects English, Mathematics & Science with 40% aggregarte. English 40% in Xth / XIIth.

  • XIIth standard (any stream) pass from government recognized board with 40% aggregate. English 40% at Xth or XIIth but with subjects English, Mathematics & Science at Xth.
    • OR
  • Pass in 2 Year ITI course* approved by DVET; with minimum 40% aggregate marks in final year of ITI & minimum 40% in English inXth / XIIth.
  • Minimum 40% in English at10th Std. or in 10+2, or in Diploma or Degree. Minimum 50% in English if passed from vernacular medium.
  • Between 18 years to 25 years before entry in training (On 1st January or 1st July)
  • Height: 158 cm Minimum
  • BMI: 20 Minimum
  • BMI: 30 Maximum
  • Normal colour and field of vision. No squint. No eye disease.
  • Distance Vision: [Unaided] 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in other eye.
  • No speech impairment (disorder)
  • 6 months. Course starts on 1st of January and 1st July each year.

    3. Passport should have surname and given name.
    4. Passport should not bear ECR REQUIRED Endorsement.
    5. Name and DOB on passport and marksheet should be same.
  2. Booster dose certificate of Covid 19 vaccination at the time of application.

  • Selection is done by written and oral test in English grammer, Maths, Science and General Knowledge. Syllabus upto and including 10th standard.
