  • The Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) course at the School of Maritime Studies in Bhubaneswar is a one-year program designed to prepare students for a career in the merchant navy. This course covers both theoretical and practical aspects of nautical science, including navigation, seamanship, and maritime laws. The curriculum typically includes subjects like cargo handling, ship stability, meteorology, and marine engineering basics. After completing the one-year classroom training, students undergo 18 months of sea service, where they gain hands-on experience on board ships.
  • The DNS program is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India, ensuring that it meets the necessary standards for maritime education. Graduates of the course are eligible to appear for the Second Mate exam, which is a crucial step in advancing their maritime career. Successful candidates can then work as deck officers on merchant ships.

Seven Islands Maritime Training Institute

  • DNS is 12 months Pre-Sea Training Course i.e. Diploma in Nautical Science leading to a Degree in B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science). After 18 months Structured Shipboard Training on Board our Vessels & 4 months various Advance Courses, the candidates will appear for 2nd Mate Examination .
  • On passing the 2nd Mate Examination & obtaining the Certificate of Competency (CoC) awarded by the DG Shipping, Govt. of India, candidates will be eligible to employ as 3rd Officer Globally.
  • After prescribed Sea-Time completion at every Rank, the candidates will be appearing for Higher Rank Examination such as Mate and Chief Mate.
  • Further, they are awarded a Degree on clearing the DLP task & passing all subjects.

Graduate Marine Engineering Course Eligibility

Education Qualification

  1. Age below 27 yrs as of 11 NOV 2024.
  2. Candidate has to have completed BE/Btech in Mechanical engineering ( combined fields with Mechanical word first are also eligible ) OR Mechanical and Automation, Mechanical and Electronics, Mechanical and Automobile a. OR BE/B Tech in Naval Architecture (combined fields with Navel Arch first) are also eligible OR Degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engg or Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding are OK.
  3. Score greater than 60 % in Final year in BTech mechanical engineering courses from AICTE approved college.
  4. Score greater than 50 % in English in 10th or 12th.
  5. Those who have already done GME course or Btech Marine course are not eligible.
  6. Selected candidates will have to undergo medical test as per DG requirements.
  7. Selected candidates will have to undergo one year GME course from company approved institute.
  8. Cost of fees for the course has to be borne by the candidate.
  9. Company will only give job sponsorship and that is subject to successful completion of the course and candidate maintaining his medical fitness.
  10. Candidate should be an Indian National.
  11. Both Male and Female candidates are encouraged to apply.

Selection Procedure

Step 1: Registration and Payment

Register for Exams:

Complete Registration and Payment:

  • Pay Rs 1000/- towards Registration and Exam Fees.

Schedule Your Online Exam:

  • Exam registration opens on: 11th September 2024.
  • Last date to register: 9th October 2024.
  • Online Exam Dates: 14th & 15th October 2024 (Choose one date and time).

Select Interview City:

  • During registration, select your preferred city for the physical interview. This will be used if you are shortlisted based on the online written exam results.

Important Notes:

  • Exam Requirements: Ensure you have a tablet, mobile phone, laptop, or PC with a camera (PC or Laptop is recommended).
  • Exam Monitoring: The written exam will be conducted online with proctoring by AI.
  • Refer to Guidelines: Check the website for all other conditions and guidelines related to the exam.

Step 2: Physical Interview

  • Shortlisting: Candidates who pass the written exam and make it to the merit list will be invited for a physical interview.
  • Interview Location: The interview will be conducted in the city of preference you selected during registration.

Step 3: Medical and Psychometric Tests

Medical Tests:

  • Candidates will need to complete medical tests, including eyesight, conducted by an MSC-approved doctor.
  • Medical Test Fee: Approximately Rs 5000/- to 6000/-, payable by the candidate.

Psychometric Test:

  • Candidates must also undergo a psychometric test.
  • Psychometric Test Fee: Approximately Rs 1000/-, payable to the MSC-approved psychometric counseling service.

Step 4: Final Selection

Criteria for Final Selection:

  • Pass the MSC Entrance Written Exam.
  • Successfully complete the MSC Interview.
  • Pass the MSC Eyesight & Medical Test.
  • Pass the MSC Psychometric Test.
  • Candidates must meet all MSC and DG Shipping criteria to be shortlisted for final selection.
