What are Exit Exams?

Exit Exams are tests that are necessary to clear all the students at the end of the course. Exit Exams show that you have gained the required skills and knowledge. This exam is often used to show that the cadet is ready for the next level of education or course. 

Why Exit Exams are Important?

Exit exams play an important role in the academics of the students. It serves as a benchmark that ensures readiness and maintains the quality of education.

When you work with a crew of 19-20 people and you need to take care of a million-dollar ship where even just a small error can lead to loss of life, then it becomes quite important to have proper education and training to avoid fatal mistakes.

DG Shipping Exit Exam

The DG Shipping Exit Exam is a crucial test conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping in India. It is taken by candidates who have completed their pre-sea training or other mandatory courses. This exam ensures that seafarers are well-prepared to work safely and efficiently in the maritime industry. Through this evaluation, it is confirmed that candidates meet international and national shipping standards.

Structure of DG Shipping Exit Exam

The DG Shipping Exit Exam is divided into multiple sections, and it is designed to assess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Topics such as maritime safety, pollution control, and emergency procedures are covered. Additionally, communication skills and basic operational understanding are tested.

Importance of the DG Shipping Exit Exam

  1. Safety Knowledge: It is confirmed that candidates understand safety protocols, including firefighting, lifesaving techniques, and first aid.

How to Prepare for DG Shipping Exit Exam

Preparation for the DG Shipping Exit Exam must be taken seriously. If you fail your exit exam 3 items then you need to appear for the whole course in which you failed again which will consume a lot of your time. 

  • Review Training Materials: It is recommended that candidates go through their course notes and manuals thoroughly.
  • Practice Tests: Mock tests and sample papers should be attempted to understand the question format.

How to Give Exit Exam

It is the responsibility of the institute from where you are doing the STCW courses to conduct the examination. Once you complete your STCW course, the college will make the arrangements for the Exit Exam. You just have to be ready to give the Exit Exam.

Step 1:

To attempt the examination, you need to login to: https://www.dgsexams.in/ via your MTS.

Step 2:

Enter INDOS number and click login.

Step 3:

Enter INDOS number and click login.

Step 4:

After filling the necessary details, you need to download the DGS Secure Software file

Step 5: Click “DGSSecureSoftware.exe” and run the software.

Step 6:

A screen will appear where you need to fill your INDOS Id.

Step 7:

Click on the Refresh Button on the dg exit exam page.

Step 8:

Select your course.

Step 9: Click on Take Test. 

Step 10: Grant camera permission.

Step 11:

Read the instructions carefully and also make sure to click on the check boxes available after which the option to capture the photo will appear.

Step 12: Once the system verifies your photo, a button will appear to proceed to the exam. 

Important Instruction for the Exit Exam

  • In between the examination, randomly 5 photos will be taken at any point without any indication. So, it is necessary to always look at the screen. 
  • Do not minimize or switch windows at the time of examination. It can lead to failure in the Exit Exam. 
  • During the exit exam, do not leave the window idle for more than 3 minutes. It can lead to termination of the exam. 
  • If your internet stopped working in-between the examination, then you don’t need to worry as the exam will get paused for a maximum of 5 minutes. 
  • You need to attempt all the questions. 
  • Your result will be declared immediately as soon as you finish the examination. 
  • If a student fails the exam, then he can reattempt the examination the next day for 3 times only. 

Exit Exam Frequently Asked Questions

You can attempt the exit exam anytime between 1000 hours to 1700 hours.

You will get a total of 3 attempts to clear the exit exam after which you need to go through the course again to give the exit exam. 

Students who have INDOS number and have gone through the STCW courses can go for the Exit Exam. 

Once you clear all the exams, then your certificate will be ready to download within 2 to 4 days of the declaration of result.
