What is Marine Engineering?

Marine engineering is a specific field of engineering that deals with the creation, building, running, and upkeep of ships, boats, submarines, and other sea vessels. It involves working on ship engines, propulsion systems, and onboard gear to make sure maritime operations are safe and productive. Marine engineers have a key part to play in the shipping business, naval defense, and offshore exploration.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Marine Engineer:

Marine Engineers are responsible for the smooth functioning of all mechanical systems on a ship. 

  1. Operation and Maintenance: Maintain engines, boilers, generators, and other machinery.
  2. Engine Room Management: Supervise and monitor the performance of equipment in the engine room.
  3. Routine Inspection: Conduct regular checks to detect wear and tear or any malfunction.
  4. Troubleshooting: Identify and fix machinery issues to ensure smooth operations at sea.
  5. Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs of machinery operations, maintenance, and repairs.
  6. Fuel and Lubricant Management: Monitor fuel consumption and manage lubrication systems efficiently.
  7. Compliance: Ensure all machinery complies with environmental and safety regulations.
  8. Team Supervision: Lead engine room crew and assign daily tasks.

Eligibility criteria

Undergraduate Courses:

  • Your Age should fall in between 17 – 25 Years. Remember, it depends college to college.
  • Candidates must have qualified Intermediate with at least 60% in PCM from a recognised board. It is to be noted that students with better PCM percentage are preferred.
  • Your English marks should be not less than 50% in matriculation or intermediate.

 

Post Graduate Courses 

  • Candidates must have qualified Intermediate exams from any recognised board.
  • Candidates must have qualified their final year with minimum 6.0 CGPA or 60% in marine engineering or relevant courses 

 

Doctorate Courses

  • Candidates need to have a postgraduate degree in Marine Engineering with 55% from a recognized university. 
  • Candidates need to clear any of the given exams

    • UGC NET
    • University specific exams

Complete IMU CET Application Form

  • Submit your application online at imu.edu.in to take the IMU CET entrance exam.

 

Submit Applications to Various Colleges

  • Send in your forms to colleges like TMI, IMI, AMET, and others, based on what you want.

 

Send Applications to Sponsoring Companies

  • Reach out to companies (such as Anglo-Eastern,V ships, wilhelmsen ship Management, Maersk Line etc.) that offer sponsorship programs.
